Overcoming Spiritual Warfare:

Find Peace, Power, and Victory Through Faith

Have you been feeling unusually heavy, confused, or overwhelmed? Like you’re fighting something invisible that you just can’t shake?

Maybe you’ve lost your motivation to pray. Your thoughts are foggy, on edge, and you can’t quite explain why. I want you to know this: you are not crazy and you are not alone. You may be facing spiritual warfare.

I’ve walked through many seasons just like this. And I’m here to walk with you, too.

When the Fight Feels Personal: A Story You Might Know Too Well

Let me share a part of my life with you. I am a proud believer in Jesus Christ. There was a time when everything felt like it was falling apart. Problems seemed to come one after another, my bills outweighed my income, and my house felt like it was falling apart at the seams. One day, my children expressed their uncertainty about whether Jesus was real. To be honest, I was slipping into a depression and I was tired.
At that time, I didn’t realize that I wasn’t just feeling tired and down. I was under attack.
The enemy doesn’t always show up with red horns. Sometimes, he comes in the form of discouragement, confusion, delay, or spiritual numbness. This is the reality of spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:12), and many Christians are battling it silently.

What Victory Looks Like: Peace, Clarity, and Power in Christ

Now picture this…

You wake up with clarity, your mind no longer racing with anxious thoughts. You open your Bible and feel like God is speaking directly to you. Your prayers don’t feel powerless, they carry weight. You have discernment to spot the enemy’s tactics and the strength to resist them.

You’re no longer surviving; you’re thriving! Equipped, empowered, and rooted in Christ.

This is not just a dream. This is what happens when we understand the battle and apply spiritual tools with intention.

How to Fight Back: A Step-by-Step Guide to Spiritual Victory

Remember: YOU’RE AN OVERCOMER!

You can overcome spiritual warfare, and you don’t have to do it alone. Here’s a clear path forward using practical tools, Biblical truth, and Kingdom resources.

Step 1: Recognize the Battle

Start by naming what’s happening. And call it out in Jesus name! Confusion, division, fatigue, anxiety and depression. These are often signs of warfare, not failure. Read and meditate on Ephesians 6:10–18.

Step 2: Armor Up Daily

Put on the full armor of God. Start each morning with a scripture declaration. Declare the Word over your life and your household. Stand firm! (Want to know the scriptures I declare over my children and my house? Check it out here – https://nicoleluallen.com/2025/03/14/declaring-gods-word/ – These are powerful promises from the Lord to Armor up with!)

Step 3: Pray with Power

Use guided warfare prayers speaking God’s Word over your situation. Declare victory—even if you don’t feel it yet. (Need help? My Prayer Journal on Amazon walks you through step-by-step on how to start prayer journaling. And is filled with scripture.)

Step 4: Fast for Clarity

Fasting brings breakthrough. I share more in my previous blog on how fasting can break strongholds. My daughter came to know Jesus after one of my fast ended. Won’t He do it?! This mama was waring in the Spirit for her children. God is good!

Step 5: Stand on Scripture

Use the Word as your sword. Write scripture down. Place verses all over your house for what it is you are going through and SPEAK IT OUT LOUD! There is power in your tongue honey! (Proverbs 18:21)

Step 6: Stay Connected

Don’t isolate yourself. The enemy thrives in silence and secrecy. Join my community, where we pray together, fast together, and grow together.

FAQ: What You’re Wondering About Spiritual Warfare

Q: How do I know if I’m in spiritual warfare or just going through a hard time?

A: Spiritual warfare often feels like irrational resistance—confusion, heaviness, or spiritual apathy without cause. If your mind is under siege, it may not be just stress—it could be spiritual.

Q: What prayers should I pray when I’m under attack?

A: Start with Psalms 91, Ephesians 6:10–18, and targeted declarations from your time with the Lord. Engage with the Holy Spirit, He will give you His promises to stand on.

Q: Can fasting really make a difference?

A: Absolutely. Fasting aligns your spirit with God’s and weakens the influence of the flesh and enemy. Reference Mark 9:29 “This kind only comes out by prayer and fasting.” Fasting will break the strongholds of the enemy.

Q: How long does this spiritual warfare last?

A: Warfare seasons vary, but with the right tools and consistent prayer, many believers see breakthroughs faster than they expect. Remember, God already has the victory. And He has given us power and authority to trample over the enemy. Walk in that authority!

From Information to Revelation

A Journey of Faith and Healing

In life, you will always encounter seasons where only the hand of God can move you forward. It is supposed to be that way; it reminds us of our humanity and God’s divinity. Anything in your life that is not captured in God, will not sustain you, it will not bring you peace or happiness.
The woman suffering from the issue of blood (Luke 8:43 – 48) captured a revelation, “if I could just touch the hem of His garment I will be made whole”. Despite her prolonged suffering and failed attempts at finding healing, she persists in seeking out Jesus. She finds Jesus’ location and touches the hem of His garment, it causes power to come out of Him and instantly she is healed. She never had a conversation with Him before this, but what she did have was a revelation. Jesus recognized that someone touched him, but the disciples were confused because there were so many people touching him. However, Jesus responded to her faith. This woman had what we still need today, which is faith.
Romans 10:17 says “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. Faith comes from somewhere. Faith is produced from the revelation of God’s word. Revelation is not information. Information comes from the mind. Revelation comes through the Spirit of God. You can hear something as information, for example, we always say we are children of God but for many people that stays on a surface level as information. We hear it, we read about it, and we sing songs about it, but the difference between information and revelation is how you live your life. Because the person who has captured the revelation in God of what it means to be a child of God, they are not easily shaken! They know that if the God who created everything is my Father then He sees me, He’s a good father, and he would not withhold anything good from me. So even when I’m going through a trial, even when it feels like I’m going through a test, even while suffering, He must know that this is good for me. You’re not easily shaken and asking: “God, where are you?”

In Matthew chapter 16, we see the difference between information and revelation. Jesus was asking his disciples who do they say that I am? The Bible says: “When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am? They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” This is information; this is what they are processing through their mind. They see Jesus healing people and doing all these wonderful things. Elijah raised the dead, so he must be a prophet. A powerful prophet. But Jesus responded “But what about you? Who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered him by saying “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.” It was the difference between information and revelation. Simon received a word from the Spirit of God. When studying the Bible, you will notice that Peter had a unique quality because something about Jesus was revealed to him. When you have a word from God, you have the thing! That revelation will be the vehicle that gets you to the place where God wants you to be.
To make this personal, I’ll share some of my testimony. When my youngest son was born I went through mental turmoil. It was as if a switch was flipped in my mind and I could not shut it off. I eventually sought out therapy and was diagnosed with PTSD. I was sexually abused and the enemy used that to completely riddle me with fear, anxiety, and overwhelming panic. For 3 years this went on, I would cry out to God in prayer asking Him to heal me. Every night I went to bed believing that when I woke up the next day I would be back to “normal.” One night, in prayer, I cried out to God. I said “Lord, how long are you going to leave me like this, how long do I have to live like this? God, how many times do I have to ask You and You do nothing!?” I quietly, in my mind, heard the word “Habakkuk”. I thought what on earth is that, is that in the Bible? To my surprise, it was! I opened my Bible to Habakkuk and was blown away by the first couple of sentences which read; “How long, Lord, must I call for help but you do not listen? Or cry out “violence”! but you do not save?” (Hab. 1:2) That night I went from information; my God hears me, to revelation MY GOD HEARS ME! Through additional prayer and direction from the Lord, I was delivered at the Asbury Revival and the Lord completely restored my mind. If I had a choice, I would have preferred to be delivered on the first day… Not three years later except then I wouldn’t be here sharing this story with you. Looking at it now I am so thankful for what I went through.
So what happened, God spoke a word, and He gave me The Word and I stood on that. The solution was not something grand. He was saying I hear you, if you will just stand on the Word of God, and hold on to what I’m saying to you then you have the thing already! And the emery knew if she gets a word then I cannot cripple her with fear to get an access point. The Word of God becomes your defense of every attack and lie of the enemy. Find a word for what you are going through and stand firm on that scripture. Whatever area in your life that you are having anxiety over shows that you have information and not revelation. The Lord says, “Seek me and you will find me when you seek me with all your heart”. Ask the Lord to make His word come alive for you. Ask Him, “What does it mean to seek you? Lord, open my eyes. God, what does this word mean for me?” Engage with the Holy Spirit and in the Word. No matter the obstacles we face in life we already have the authority over it because God said so in Luke chapter 10:19 “I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
The revelation in the Word will produce faith and the evidence of revelation is peace. Your miracle is in the Word. The Bible says “He sent His Word and healed our diseases.” Move in the power of His Word. I want to encourage you today, that wherever you are lacking faith in your life, wherever you are lacking peace, whatever area has crippled you with anxiety, seek God! Engage with the Holy Spirit. Ask Him questions, ask Him to give you a Word about your particular situation, and stand on that. I remember when I was asking the Lord for a scripture for my children and He gave me Isaiah 54:13 “All of your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace.” It may not look like that now for all my children but I declare it daily and that is the promise I stand on for them. I know all of God’s promises are yes and amen and that it will come to pass. Stand firm on His Word. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

Proclaiming His Promises

Stand firm in faith and declare God’s Word over your life today. His promises never fail!

Declaring God’s promises over your life and the lives of your loved ones is how we stand firm in the face of adversity. Life may not always look like what God has promised us. Sometimes we fall sick or deal with the enemy’s attack on our mind. But the Lord never said this life would be easy what he did say was “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Troubled times are opportunities for us to rise in faith. These are opportunities for us to walk in the authority of Christ. The Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat the fruit thereof. When you come into agreement with God and His Word, God will release what belongs to Him into your situation to change your situation. This is how we walk in the spirit. It is impossible to pray and have nothing happen. God’s promises will never fail, He will keep His word, and it will come to pass!

I declare God’s word over my children and myself every day. Below, I will list some of the declarations I stand on for my household, so you can get an idea of how to proclaim God’s word. Spend time with the Lord and ask Him, “What does Your word say about my children?” or “What does Your word say about this situation in my life?” Whatever you are facing, there is a promise for you to stand on.

Declarations For My House

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)
All my children are taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace. (Isaiah 54:13)
No weapon formed against us will prosper, and every tongue that accuses us we will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is our vindication from the Lord. (Isaiah 54:17)
I remain confident of this: we will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13)
We will not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)
My God will meet all our needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. (2 Peter 1:3)
Our soil is good and will produce fruit 100-fold. (Luke 8:8)
God has sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge. (2 Corinthians 1:22)
For we walk by faith and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

God will work all things out for our good because we love Him and have been called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
What the enemy meant for evil God will use for our good. (Genesis 50:20)
The Lord’s plans for our lives are to prosper us, not to harm us, plans to give us a hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
(Because we live by the word of God and meditate on it) We are like trees planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in every season. Our leaves will never wither, and we prosper in all we do. (Psalm 1:3)
God has given us the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm us. (Luke 10:19)
We are quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. (James 1:19)
We are sanctified and set apart for the glory of God. We are healed, sealed, delivered, and set free. We are covered by the blood of Jesus. When we fall, He picks us up. We are victorious and crowned with favor. We walk in the authority of Christ.
Surely God’s goodness and love will follow us all the days of our lives, and we will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalm 23:6)

IN JESUS NAME, AMEN AND AMEN

Hearing the Voice of the Lord:

In our spiritual journey, one of the most profound experiences we can have is hearing the voice of the Lord. This divine communication is not reserved for a select few but is available to all who seek a deep and personal relationship with God. As Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” To truly hear His voice, we must cultivate a relationship with Him, allowing His guidance to permeate our lives.

Cultivating a Relationship with God

Building a relationship with God requires time, dedication, and a sincere desire to know Him. Scripture says in Proverbs 8:17 “I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.” Here are some ways to cultivate this relationship:

  1. Prayer: Spend time in prayer, not only speaking but also listening. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 teaches us to “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
  2. Reading the Bible: Regularly reading and studying the Bible helps us understand His character and recognize His voice.
  3. Worship: Engaging in worship, both individually and with others, draws us closer to God and helps us become more attuned to His presence. In 2 Kings 3:15, Elisha the prophet requested worship before delivering the word of the Lord to the Kings. “But now bring me a harpist. While the harpist was playing, the hand of the LORD came on Elisha.”
  4. Fellowship: Surround yourself with other believers who encourage and support your spiritual growth.

Discerning God’s Voice

In our pursuit of hearing God’s voice, it is crucial to discern which voice we are hearing. The Bible instructs us to pray for the gift of discernment (1 Corinthians 12:10), enabling us to distinguish between God’s voice, our thoughts, and the enemy’s deceit.

Here are some key principles to help discern God’s voice:

  1. Fruits of the Spirit: Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. If the voice you hear promotes these qualities, it is likely from God.
  2. Encouragement and Uplifting: God’s voice will encourage and uplift you, building up the body of Christ. It will bring hope, clarity, and direction, not confusion or fear.
  3. Contrast with the Enemy’s Voice: The enemy’s voice brings anxiety, worry, and anger. John 10:10 reminds us that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” If the voice leads to destruction and chaos, it is not from God.

Positioning Yourself as a Listener

To hear God’s voice, we must position ourselves as attentive listeners. This involves:

  1. Quieting the Noise: In our busy lives, it’s essential to find moments of stillness and silence, free from distractions, to listen for God’s voice.
  2. Being Receptive: Approach God with an open heart and a willingness to receive His guidance, even if it challenges your plans or desires.
  3. Seeking Confirmation: God’s guidance often aligns with Scripture and can be confirmed through prayer and wise counsel from trusted believers.

Conclusion

Hearing the voice of the Lord is a beautiful and transformative experience that deepens our relationship with Him. By cultivating a relationship with God, praying for discernment, and positioning ourselves as attentive listeners, we can recognize His voice and follow His guidance. Remember, God’s voice brings peace, clarity, and encouragement, leading us toward a life that reflects His love and grace.

In your journey to hear His voice, trust that as His sheep, you are known by Him, and He is always ready to speak to you. Seek Him diligently, and His voice will become unmistakably clear. This will take practice, but I believe you are well on your way. You have a desire to hear His voice, or you wouldn’t be here reading my blog post.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May He make His face shine on you and give you peace.

The Power of Unity: Surround Yourself with Other Believers

Last night, while studying Genesis chapter 19, I came across a significant verse I want to share. The chapter covers the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. I couldn’t help but notice that Lot, who offered his daughters up for abuse, didn’t seem like a righteous man. I wondered why God spared him and his family from the destruction of these wicked cities. Then I found the answer in this verse: “So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham and brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.” (Genesis 19:29). In chapter 18, Abraham pleaded with God about Sodom, and his main concern was the deliverance of Lot. The prayers of a righteous man are what saved Lot and his family. This verse was enlightening as it highlighted the significance of surrounding oneself with other believers. In this blog post, I will explore why being in the company of fellow followers of Christ is crucial.

Remember that as believers of Jesus Christ, we have all been made righteous through His crucifixion and bloodshed. Although, the lessons behind these old testament stories are still of immeasurable value. With that said, let’s dive in.

Healthy Comparison

We must acknowledge that not everyone possesses the same anointing. Despite thinking otherwise, this is not the case. Although Abraham was highly anointed, Lot did not match up to him. Following someone who carries a powerful anointing in their life will aid us in following their example and actions. As Proverbs 13:20 states, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” I am not suggesting that we compare ourselves to others and feel inadequate in our faith journey. Nevertheless, there is a healthy way to do so. Observing how other believers live and behave should inspire and motivate us to improve ourselves.

Feed Your Spirit

Jeremiah 3:15 says, “And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.” Being around other believers will feed your spirit. Having your soul filled with the truth of God’s word and positive confirmations will help you see God’s purpose for your life. It will help you stay on the right path. The Hebrew term for knowledge is based on the verb yada, “to know.” It is understanding with insight. The Hebrew word for “understanding” is tebuna, which denotes intelligence or discernment. And knowledge will continuously pursue the truth.

Prayer and Support

Having a solid support system is crucial. Being around a community of Christ followers will provide immense emotional support. Scripture says, in James 5:16, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” We all know that prayer is a potent tool we believers have. Note the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. You can learn more about the power of prayer in my previous blog: https://nicoleluallen.wordpress.com/2023/05/17/the-power-of-prayer/

Surrounding yourself with other believers is an essential aspect of the Christian faith and a profound source of strength, growth, and encouragement.

Stay blessed, everyone!

6 Ways to Find Joy In Pain

“I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Life is a journey filled with hills and valleys, joys and struggles. As Christ followers, we are not immune to the challenges that come our way. However, we can change our perspective. If you’re familiar with my testimony, you know that I experienced a difficult time in my life that led me to hide physically. It was one of my darkest moments, but I’m now sharing my vulnerable story with others to offer hope. There’s a purpose behind pain, and with that understanding, we can find joy even in struggles. Finding peace during hardships can be challenging, so let’s explore some ways to make it possible.

1. Embrace God’s Presence:
In times of struggle, it’s essential to remember that we are not alone. God promises to be with us always, providing comfort, strength, and guidance.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6). By seeking His presence through prayer and studying His word, we can experience a sense of peace and joy that surpasses understanding.

2. Count Your Blessings:
I’ve learned that when I can’t seem to find joy, I’m focusing too much on the problem and less on God. It’s easy to become fixated on our issues when we are going through a challenging season. However, adopting an attitude of gratitude can shift our focus and help us find joy amidst the struggle. Take time each day to reflect on the blessings in your life, big and small. “Sacrifice thank offerings to God” (Psalm 50:14). What has God done for you in the past? What has He brought you out of before? Focus on that. “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me” (Isaiah 46:9). Expressing gratitude for God’s faithfulness and the positive aspects of your life can cultivate a spirit of joy and contentment.

3. Foster a Supportive Community:
As Christians, we are called to live in community with one another. Surrounding ourselves with like-minded believers who can offer encouragement, support, and a listening ear is invaluable during times of struggle. Seek out a local church, Bible study group, or Christian fellowship where you can build relationships and share your burdens. Connecting with others who understand your faith journey can bring comfort and renewed joy.

4. Seek Wisdom from Scripture:
The Bible is a wellspring of wisdom and guidance for every aspect of life, including finding joy in times of struggle. Scripture provides countless examples of individuals who faced immense challenges yet found hope and joy through their faith in God. Spend time reading and meditating on passages that speak to your current situation. Allow God’s Word to speak life into your circumstances and strengthen your spirit.

5. Practice Self-care and Rest:
In the midst of struggles, taking care of ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually is crucial. Remember that self-care is not selfish but rather a way to honor the body and mind God has given us. Prioritize activities that bring you joy, peace, and rejuvenation. Whether it’s spending time in nature, engaging in a hobby, or simply resting, taking care of yourself enables you to better navigate the challenges you face with a renewed sense of joy.

6. Surrender and Trust in God’s Plan:
While it’s natural to desire quick solutions or a way out of our struggles, sometimes God’s plan unfolds in ways we don’t expect. In these moments, we are to trust in God’s perfect timing. Remember that “God works all things together for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28). Surrendering our struggles to Him and placing our trust in His plan allows us to find joy even in the midst of uncertainty.

As Christians, we are not exempt from the struggles of life. And Jesus told us we would have them. However, you’re not alone. God is listening and hasn’t left you. So don’t let the enemy keep you silent and stuck in worry. Revelation 12:11 says, “We triumph over him (the enemy) by the blood of the Lamb and the words of our testimony.” So speak your testimony; speak life over yourself and your loved ones. Remember, troubles are temporary, and joy will come again. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). As a follower of Christ, we can trust that struggles will always come to pass. A line in a song by Bethel Music says, “The enemy thought he had me, but Jesus said you are mine.” Let that remind us that no matter the situation, we can find purpose in pain and say, “Thank you, God!”

The Power of Prayer

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Prayer stands as a vital cornerstone for believers. As a Christ follower, prayer goes beyond a mere religious ritual; it is an intimate connection with God that shapes our hearts, minds, and lives. Today, we will discuss the profound significance of prayer and explore how it enriches our relationship with God, transforms us from within, and empowers us to impact the world around us.

Photo by cottonbro studio on Pexels.com

Prayer is our direct line to God.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” (1 John 5:14-15)
Prayer serves as a channel for communing with our Heavenly Father. In prayer, we can share the desires of our hearts, our needs, and the deepest parts of who we are with our Creator. Prayer is our direct line, and who better to call than Jesus?!

Prayer brings us closer to God.
“Come near to God, and he will come near to you.” (James 4:8)
Prayer strengthens our relationship with God, builds our trust in Him, and creates intimacy—a truly personal relationship. In the presence of God, we have a deep sense of belonging. And a profound love. I heard a lady in church say, “God already loves us; we have to fall in love with Him.” That resonated with me. I only here recently started telling God, “I love you.” And it is because I feel in love with Him.

Prayer improves mental health.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
The Bible teaches us to cast all our worry, anxiety, and care on the Lord. “Cast your cares on the Lord, and he will sustain you” (Psalm 55:22). In this life, we are going to have troubles, but God will never “let us be shaken.” If you want to learn more about faith and mental health, you can read about it in my previous post. https://nicoleluallen.wordpress.com/2023/05/12/how-faith-improves-health/

Prayer will align us with God’s will.
Prayer plays a pivotal role in discerning God’s will for our lives. By seeking His guidance, we gain clarity, direction, and wisdom in our decisions. Prayer helps us to surrender our plans and walk in accordance with His. We learn in the word of God; we are to ask for His guidance, wisdom, and discernment. I have learned that when my desires, talents, and dreams are aligned with glorifying God and building the Kingdom, I have the most fulfillment and joy. “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)

In conclusion, prayer is nourishment to our souls. Just as water sustains our bodies, prayer feeds our soul. “but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” (John 4:14) Prayer gives us connection, communication, intimacy, peace for our minds, purpose, and direction. Let us embrace the power of prayer and cultivate a prosperous, intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father. With Christ, we are made new, and we are whole.

How Faith Improves Health

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22

Research has shown that having faith can significantly impact a person’s overall health and well-being. While there are controversies regarding faith and health, much evidence suggests that faith can positively affect physical, mental, and social health outcomes. To make it personal, during a difficult time in my life, my faith in God was the anchor that kept me holding on. (You can read about my deliverance in my previous blog post https://nicoleluallen.wordpress.com/2023/05/07/just-hold-on/)
So how does faith improve your health, you ask? This blog post aims to bring to light the connection between faith and a person’s overall health and well-being.

  1. Stress Reduction

One of the most significant ways faith can improve health is by reducing stress. Engaging in faith-based practices such as prayer, meditation, and attending church has been proven to lower stress hormone levels in the body. Psalm 1:2-3 teaches us that if we meditate on God’s word day and night, we will be “like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.” Focusing on God shifts our perspective and takes our minds off worldly thinking into Kingdom thinking.

A study published in the ‘Journal of Behavioral Medicine’ found that people who attend church services regularly had lower cortisol levels, a stress-related hormone.

In addition, faith provides comfort and hope in difficult times, which can help to reduce stress and anxiety. People with a strong belief in God often report feeling more resilient and better at coping with stress.

2. Mental Health

Faith can also have a positive impact on mental health. Studies have shown that people who strongly believe in God are less likely to experience depression and anxiety. God’s word reminds us that worry and fear do not come from God. If you are reading this and struggle with mental health issues, know you are not alone. I wrestled with anxiety for a significant portion of my life. And have been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. My life became much lighter when I fully surrendered to Christ and gave Him all my baggage. There are numerous stories in the Bible of people who also suffered from similar issues. As we become familiar with the word and its teachings, we can walk those out in our everyday lives, thus transforming our minds. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2

1 Peter 5:7 teaches us to “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” Worship and anxiety can not exist in the same place. When worry steps in, count your blessings. Fully trusting in God, knowing that He has a plan and a purpose for your life, is extremely important for mental health. A study published in the ‘Journal of Religion and Health’ found that people who reported a sense of meaning and purpose in life had lower levels of depression and anxiety.

3. Physical Health

Faith can also have positive effects on physical health. For example, studies have shown that people with a strong belief in God are likelier to engage in healthy behaviors. In addition, as believers in Jesus Christ, we have the pleasure of the Holy Spirit. One of the countless delights the Holy Spirit gives us is conviction. In turn, it also helps us to live a healthier lifestyle.

Among other things, faith can provide social support, which is linked to better health outcomes. People who attend church services and activities regularly often have a solid social network of like-minded friends who can provide emotional and practical support during difficult times. “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm” (Proverbs 13:20). A wise man, my father, once told me, “You are the company you keep, and if a relationship is toxic, you love them from a distance.” In doing so, this keeps our lives healthy.

In conclusion, God is our source for a healthy lifestyle. We were created by Him and in His image. His presence is our natural inhabitation. If you take a fish out of the water, it dies. So likewise, when we embody disconnection from God, we die.

Unforgiveness and Your Salvation

Let’s talk about Matthew 6: 14-15 “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

I want to bring some clarity to this verse because I have heard it preached on and taught about in a way that, simply put, makes Jesus’ crucifixion in vain. I want to start this out by saying

UNFORGIVNESS WILL NOT TAKE YOUR SALVATION AWAY!!

You know how I know this to be true… because Jesus Christ bore all that unimaginable beating and was crucified on the cross for ALL sins!

But let me back up because I never want anyone to just take my word for it. I will add scripture references. Unforgiveness can be an issue and will cause a hardening of your heart and possibly cause you to miss out on some earthly things God has in store for you. However, unforgiveness will not take your salvation away. When someone accepts the FREE GIFT OF SALVATION through Jesus Christ, all their past, present and future sins (including the sin of unforgiveness) are washed away! Hebrews 10:10 says “Our sins are washed away and we are made clean because Christ gave His own body as a gift to God. He did this once for all time.”

It is very important when reading your bible to keep it in context. My greatest advice on understanding scripture is

#1 Pray for understanding before reading and

#2 Context, Context, Context!!

Yes, Matt. 6: 14-15 was said by Jesus Christ, but to put it in context this was said BEFORE THE CROSS! Jesus was teaching about forgiveness to the Jews, (in this passage to His disciples), who were trying to gain God’s approval through fulfilling the Law. A lot of Jewish people believed that strictly adhering to the Law with their behavior was enough to earn forgiveness from God. But Jesus revealed to them that despite their efforts, they did not measure up. In Romans 3:23 – 24 we learn that we all fall short, but praise God for the redemption of sin that came by Jesus Christ! “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” He was preparing them to receive Him as their Lord after He paid the price for their sins on the cross. Matthew 15:24 “He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

After the Cross

In Acts 4:12 and 1 John 2:12, we can see a very important difference in what Jesus is speaking to us now AFTER THE CROSS. WE HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN! JESUS HAS ALREADY PAID THE PRICE FOR OUR SINS! We do not forgive others so that God will forgive us. We CANNOT EARN our forgiveness. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works so that no one can boast” Ephesians 2:8-9. Today, we forgive others because we have been forgiven!

Just Hold On

A story about deliverance.

Mental health is not something we should take delicately. About three and a half years ago, something within my mind shifted. Daily I was having these unwanted, intrusive thoughts. These thoughts were so unbelievably heavy and overbearing that I wanted to be invisible. One day my husband entered our bedroom to find me hiding under our bed.
“What are you doing under the bed?” he asked.
“Hiding!” I replied. “Hiding!

You see, what he or no one else knew was what I was going through. I did not want to share with anyone the thoughts I was having in fear of being admitted to a hospital. I’m a mom and I work a full-time job. I didn’t have time for the psych ward.
I continued to suffer in silence for three long years. Every day I begged God to deliver me. Some days were better than others but every day I suffered. I eventually reached out to a therapist and was diagnosed with PTSD. However, I was never fully honest with my therapist. (Which I do not recommend.) I kept those thoughts between me and God.
I was sexually abused, and the enemy used that horrific time of my life to riddle me with fear, anxiety, and overwhelming panic. “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). I was being devoured, or at least it felt that way. Despite that, can I let you in on a little secret GOD ALWAYS WINS!

Just Hold On

Every night I went to bed believing that when I woke up the next day I would be back to “normal.” One night, in prayer, I cried out to God. I said “Lord, how long are you going to leave me like this, how long do I have to live like this? God, how many times do I have to ask You and You do nothing!?” I quietly, in my mind, heard the word “Habakkuk”. I thought what on earth is that, is that in the Bible? Yes, it is! I opened my Bible to Habakkuk and was blown away by the first couple of sentences which read; “How long, Lord, must I call for help but you do not listen? Or cry out “violence”! but you do not save?” (Hab. 1:2)
The Lord was showing me that He did hear me and that He has a plan for my life. If I had a choice, I would have preferred to be delivered on the first day… Not three years later except then I wouldn’t be here sharing this story with you. Looking at it now I am so thankful for what I went through. My relationship with God has been strengthened. My trust in Him is wholehearted, I have a yearning to share the Gospel and the good news of Jesus Christ. And my joy has been made new! “Not only that but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:1-5)
My deliverance did come, but “normal” never did. And praise God because I am not the same person. I have been made new!

“Let us hold unswerving to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
